Keysoft advertising patent challenge instituted

On March 19, 2025, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,271,315, owned and asserted by Keysoft, Inc., an NPE. The '315 patent is directed to a targeted advertising platform using information gleaned from consumer purchases. It had been asserted against Amazon and others.

Omni MedSci medical device patent prior art found

Unified is pleased to announce prior art has been found on U.S. Patent 10,874,304, owned by Omni MedSci, Inc. The ‘304 patent generally relates to medical device applications, including systems and methods for using near-infrared or short-wave infrared light sources. It has been asserted against Samsung and Whoop.

$3,000 awarded in second Cloud-Native Heroes Challenge on PATROLL

Unified Patents and Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) are pleased to announce the winning prior art submissions in the second Cloud Native Heroes Challenge, a patent troll bounty program. The results of this contest demonstrate the benefits of engaging open source developers and technologists with domain expertise in the fight against patent trolls.

This challenge sought prior art that can be used to challenge U.S. Patent 11,178,104, owned and asserted by Croga Innovations Ltd., an NPE and entity of Atlantic IP Services. The ‘104 patent describes a host computer system designed to enhance network security. The primary goal is to securely access Internet-based cloud services through authenticated and firewalled isolation. The patent has been asserted against IBM.

We have selected a combination of patents as the winning prior art for this contest. U.S. Patent Publication 2011/296487A1 and U.S. Patent 10,855,725. Ritu Tyagi and Nikko Quevada will share the $3,000 cash prize for their submissions.

Empire IP entity, Fleet Connect, Wi-Fi patent challenge instituted

On March 25, 2025, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,742,388, owned and asserted by Fleet Connect Solutions, LLC, an NPE and entity of Empire IP. The '388 patent focuses on a system and method for increased bandwidth in digital communications, particularly within local and wide area networks including WLANs and mobile networks. It has been asserted in over 45 cases, most recently against UAB Xirgo Global, Werner Enterprises, Cedar Electronics, Nextbase, and others.

Eric Zautner entity, Peregrine Data, automotive patent prior art found

Unified is pleased to announce prior art has been found on U.S. Patent 8,319,619, owned by Peregrine Data LLC, an NPE and entity of Eric Zautner. The patent relates to efficiency of legal proceedings relating to vehicular incidents and to automobile security. The patent has been asserted against Solera Holdings and Lytx Inc.
