On July 7, 2025, the EPO Board of Appeals confirmed the decision to revoke all claims of EP 3675491, owned by Dolby International AB. EP ‘491 generally relates to video coding techniques that use data hiding to decrease bandwidth. The patent is related to patents that are designated essential to the Access Advance patent pool and has also been identified as potentially essential to the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard.

EP ‘209 generally relates to video coding techniques that use data hiding to decrease bandwidth. The patent is related to others that have been designated essential to the Access Advance (HEVC) pool. EP ’209 has also been identified as potentially essential to the Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard. This filing is a part of Unified’s ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

GEVC video codec patent revocation confirmed by EPO appeal

On July 3, 2025, the EPO's appellate board confirmed the decision to revoke EP 3151566. The EP ‘566 patent is owned by GE Video Compression, LLC. The EP ’566 patent is part of a family purportedly essential to HEVC and part of the Access Advance patent pool. This filing is a part of Unified’s ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.

KAIST/ETRI HEVC/AV1 patent revocation confirmed by EPO appeal

On May 9, 2025, the EPO's appellate board confirmed the decision to revoke EP 2627085. The EP ‘085 patent was owned by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The patent was related to patents that are designated essential to the Access Advance patent pool as well as SISVEL’s AV1 patent pool.

Former Velos EP video codec patent held invalid after appeal at EPO

On March 27, 2025, the amended and narrowed claims of EP 2 347 592 B1, formerly owned by Velos Media, LLC and now owned by Qualcomm, were held unpatentable by the Board of Appeals. EP’592 was part of the Velos portfolio before it was reassigned to Qualcomm. This filing is a part of Unified's ongoing efforts in its SEP Video Codec Zone.
