Rothschild entity, Quantum Technology Innovations, media streaming patent found invalid

On June 3, 2025, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate cancelling all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,650,376, owned and asserted by Quantum Technology Innovations, LLC, an NPE and Leigh Rothschild entity. The '376 patent relates to the distribution of content over a network. It has been asserted against 16 companies, including Showtime Networks, Dish Network, Sirius XM, Pandora, Valve, and BroadwayHD. The notice cancels claims 1-24, 27, 29-79, 81, 84-113, 116, and 118-123.  The examiner also disallowed all of the amended claims, as the patent had already expired.

MAF Holdings entity, Weple IP, streaming patent challenge instituted

On March 11, 2025, three weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,734,739, owned and asserted by Weple IP Holdings LLC, an NPE and entity of MAF Holdings LLC. The ‘739 patent relates to a system and process for coordinating streaming content or messages. It has been asserted against Meta Platforms Inc.

On May 23, 2025, less than one month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,015,301, owned and asserted by Digital Doors Inc., an NPE. The ‘301 patent relates to an information management system for processing data over a distributed computing system using filters. It is currently being asserted against 35+ financial institutions, including First Western Trust Bank, Texas Capital Bank, WestStar Bank, and others.
