Magnetar Capital entity Togail Technologies 3GPP patent likely invalid

On August 18, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 10,791,502, owned by Togail Technologies Ltd., a Magnetar Capital entity. The ’502 patent relates to error-handling procedures for system information requests in communications and has been asserted against 3GPP devices. It is currently being asserted against Apple and had been asserted against TCL Technology Group.

Ask Sydney image search patent reexam instituted

On August 18, 2023, six weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding a substantial new question of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,474,705, owned and asserted by Ask Sydney, LLC, an NPE. The ‘705 patent relates to analyzing tags associated with a sequence of images presented to a user to guide a user to a current interest. The patent has been asserted against Google, Amazon.com Services, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, and Snap.

$2,000 for Avant Location Tech monitoring patent prior art

A new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, was added seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 9,485,621, owned by Avant Location Technologies, LLC, an NPE and entity of Anjay Venture Partners LLC. The ‘621 patent relates to a method for monitoring a mobile station presence in a special area. This invention relates also to a mobile system, a server, a radio transmitting device, and a mobile station suitable for carrying out such a method. The patent has been asserted against Ecobee.

$2,000 for WristDocs biotelemetry patent prior art

A new PATROLL contest, with a $2,000 cash prize, was added seeking prior art on at least claim 1 of U.S. Patent 9,392,970, owned by WristDocs LLC, an NPE. The ‘970 patent provides a portable, disposable biotelemetry system, including one or more sensors, capable of being mounted on one or more extremities, particularly the wrist. The invention provides a biotelemetry system for disposition on the wrist. The device of the invention may be portable, untethered and in some instances, disposable. The features of the wrist biotelemetry system make it effective in stable, chronic or emergency medical settings. The patent has been asserted against Google, Garmin, ZEPP Health, and Apple.
