NexGen semiconductor controller patent held invalid

On December 6, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling claims 1, 5-7, and 13 of U.S. Patent 8,278,855, owned and asserted by NexGen Control Systems, LLC, an NPE. The '855 patent generally relates to control systems for electric motors. The patent was asserted against Infineon and NXP.

Oso IP entity, USTA Technology, Wi-Fi patent instituted

On December 5, 2024, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent RE 47,720, owned by USTA Technology LLC, an NPE and entity of Oso IP, LLC. The patent relates to a method of spectrum-adaptive networking using the 802.11 standard. It has been asserted against Google, AT&T, ASUS, Lenovo, LG, Samsung, and Motorola Mobility.

IP Investments entity DigiMedia Tech camera patent challenged

On November 26, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 6,567,086, owned by DigiMedia Tech, LLC, an NPE and an IP Investments Group entity. The ’086 patent generally relates to an immersive video system using multiple video streams. It has been asserted against Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Honda, Arashi Vision Inc. d/b/a Insta360, Lenovo, and Panasonic.

Lab Technology audio announcement patent challenged

On November 27, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,498,388, owned by Lab Technology LLC. The ’388 patent outlines a system and method for delivering and updating audio announcements via telecommunication devices. It is currently asserted against Amazon and Google.

IP Investments Group entity, DataCloud Technologies, firewall patent challenged

On November 25, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,370,457, owned by DataCloud Technologies, LLC, an NPE and an IP Investments Group entity. The ’457 patent relates to network communication through a virtual domain. It has been asserted in over 15 district court litigations, most recently against SonicWall, Zscaler, and Palo Alto Networks.
