AiPi entity, Gatekeeper Solutions, communications patent challenged

On November 4, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,032,038, owned and asserted by Gatekeeper Solutions, Inc., an NPE and entity of AiPi Solutions. The ‘038 patent relates to systems and methods for alerting a user of conflicting recipients when sending electronic communications. It has been asserted over ten times, but most recently against Darktrace, Forcepoint, and Trellix.

Anonymous Media ad monitoring patent challenge instituted

On October 28, 2024, less than three months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,756,622, owned by Anonymous Media Research Holdings, LLC. The ‘622 patent relates to media monitoring and measurement systems. The patent has been asserted against Samsung and Roku.

Helios MPEG-DASH patent found invalid

On October 30, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a notice of intent to issue a reexamination certificate canceling all claims of U.S. Patent 10,362,130, owned and asserted by Helios Streaming LLC, an NPE and entity of Ideahub, Inc. The ‘130 patent is relevant to systems that are compliant with the MPEG-DASH standard; its claims are directed to providing adaptive HTTP streaming services using metadata of media content to ensure smooth playback. It has been asserted against Crackle, Starz, Showtime, Vudu, Fandango, Warner Brothers, and HBO.

Acacia entity, Stingray IP, Wi-Fi patent challenged

On October 31, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,224,678, asserted by Stingray IP Solutions, an NPE and entity of Acacia Research Corporation. The ‘678 patent relates to detecting an intrusion in a network system. It is currently being asserted against Leedarson IoT Technology, Schlage Lock Company, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company.

Dominion Harbor entity, Columbia Peak, video surveillance patent challenge instituted

On October 17, 2024, only three weeks after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,446,803, owned by Columbia Peak Ventures, LLC, an NPE and Dominion Harbor entity. The ‘803 patent relates to a system for annotating and searching video files.
