Oso IP entity, USTA Technology, Wi-Fi 5 patent challenged

On October 14, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent RE 47,720, owned by USTA Technology LLC, an NPE and entity of Oso IP, LLC. The patent relates to a method of spectrum-adaptive networking using the 802.11 standard. It has been asserted against Google, AT&T, ASUS, Lenovo, LG, and Samsung.

HPCF entity, Piranha, ad related patent challenged

On October 11, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 11,463,768, owned and asserted by Piranha Media Distribution, LLC, an NPE and entity funded by HPCF Litigation Finance US I LLC. The ‘768 patent relates to providing advertisements in digital media. It has been asserted against Hulu.

Competitive Access Systems Linux cloud patent found invalid

On October 2, 2024, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) entered a final rejection of all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,868,908, owned by Competitive Access Systems, an NPE. The ’908 patent relates to multilink communications between a client and server and was asserted against Oracle's Linux offering. Unified filed the initial reexamination proceeding on October 4, 2023, receiving the final rejection within one year after filing.

Dominion Harbor entity, Columbia Peak, video surveillance patent challenged

On September 26, 2024, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,446,803, owned and asserted by Columbia Peak Ventures, LLC, an NPE and Dominion Harbor entity. The ‘803 patent relates to a system for annotating and searching video files.

Factor2 Multimedia authentication patent challenge instituted

On September 17, 2024, two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 10,083,285, owned and asserted by Factor2 Multimedia Systems, LLC, an NPE. The ‘285 patent relates to two-factor authentication methods and systems. It is currently being asserted against a variety of companies, from financial institutions like Washington Federal Bank and Texas Capital Bank to large companies like Amazon, Snap, and TikTok.
