Phelan Group automotive patent challenged

On August 31, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,259,470, owned and asserted by the Phelan Group, LLC, an NPE. The '470 patent generally relates to a vehicle control system for authenticating and monitoring a driver and their operation of a vehicle to improve safety. The patent is being asserted against Kia and Toyota.

B.S.D Crown streaming video patent challenged

On September 1, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 6,389,473, owned and asserted by B.S.D Crown Ltd. (f/k/a Emblaze Ltd.), an NPE. The ‘473 patent relates to streaming video over the Internet. The patent is being asserted against Amazon.

IFPower wireless charging patent challenge instituted

On August 23, 2023, less than two months after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding a substantial new question of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,298,361, owned and asserted by IFPower Co., Ltd. The '361 patent generally relates to a non-contact inductance circuit for a power source, e.g., for use in wireless charging devices. The patent is currently being asserted against products that are Qi-compatible and/or implement the Qi standard from Apple and Samsung.

IP Valuation Partners entity, 5G IP Holdings, 5G patent challenged

On August 21, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,813,163, owned and asserted by 5G IP Holdings LLC, an NPE and IP Valuation Partners, LLC entity. The '163 patent generally relates to discontinuous reception (DRX) and utilizing slots within subframes to adapt DRX to function within the 5G frame structure. The patent is currently being asserted against Apple and had previously been asserted against Samsung.

Adnexus advertising patent challenge instituted

On August 18, 2023, less than a month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding a substantial new question of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,719,101, owned and asserted by Adnexus, Inc., an NPE. The ‘101 patent relates to on-line advertising and has been asserted against Amazon, Meta Platforms, LinkedIn, Google, and eBay.
