Mobile Data Tech content sharing patent challenged in reexam

On June 9, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 8,793,336, owned and asserted by Mobile Data Technologies LLC, an NPE. The '336 patent relates to systems for sharing content. The patent has been asserted against Meta Platforms.

Empire IP entity Liberty Access Technologies Licensing door locks patent reexam granted

On June 8, 2023, just under a month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 11,373,474 owned by Liberty Access Technologies Licensing LLC, an NPE and Empire IP LLC entity. The '474 patent is directed to access control systems for door locks via an application on a portable device. The patent has been asserted against Marriott International and ASSA ABLOY.

Broadphone tracking patent reexam granted

On June 2, 2023, less than a month after Unified filed an ex parte reexamination, the Central Reexamination Unit (CRU) granted Unified’s request, finding substantial new questions of patentability on the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 8,594,698, owned and asserted by Broadphone LLC. The ‘698 patent generally relates to determining the location of a device based on the relative signal strength for each of a plurality of nearby, identified “antenna stations” and determining whether the device is within the proximity of a “device-specific target location”. The patent has been asserted against Samsung.

AdaptFlow media serving patent challenged

On June 6, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,015,064, owned and asserted by AdaptFlow Technologies LLC, an NPE. The '064 patent generally relates to prefetching content based on an access pattern of a user on a network. The patent is currently being asserted against Roku.

On June 5, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 9,699,444, owned and asserted by VDPP LLC, an NPE. The '444 patent generally relates to processing image frames from a video stream and generating bridge frames for motion smoothing. The patent has been asserted against Microsoft, Vizio, Lenovo, Roku, Philips, Panasonic, Sharp, and others.
