Bandspeed frequency-hopping patent challenged

On February 6, 2023, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,903,608, owned and asserted by Bandspeed, LLC, an NPE. The ‘608 patent is generally directed to communication devices for adaptive frequency-hopping based on channel performance. The patent has been asserted in over 20 litigations since 2014 but most recently against Renesas, Itron, Espressif Systems, TCL, ASUStek, and others.

BlackBerry 3GPP patent challenged in EPO

On February 3, 2023, Unified filed an opposition proceeding against EP 3474621, owned by BlackBerry. EP ‘621 is generally directed to facilitating multi-carrier operation in a mobile communication system. This filing is a part of Unified’s ongoing efforts in its SEP 3GPP/LTE/5G Zone.

Magnetar Capital entity Togail Technologies 3GPP patent challenged

On February 3, 2023, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 10,791,502, owned by Togail Technologies Ltd., an Magnetar Capital entity. The ’502 patent relates to error-handling procedures for system information requests in communications and has been asserted against 3GPP devices. It is currently being asserted against Apple and TCL Technology Group.

Dynamic IP Deals entity AuthWallet financial transactions patent held invalid

On January 31, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision in Unified Patents, LLC v. Authwallet, LLC holding all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,292,852 unpatentable. Owned by AuthWallet, LLC, an NPE and subsidiary of Dynamic IP Deals, the '852 generally relates to transaction processing services. It has been asserted against CitiGroup, Square, American Express, Starbucks, and Nordstrom.

IP Edge entity Invincible IP cloud computing patent likely invalid

On January 27, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 9,635,134, owned and asserted by Invincible IP LLC, an IP Edge entity. The ‘134 patent relates to virtual machine migration schemes in cloud computing environments and has been asserted against a variety of companies, including Citrix Systems, NetApp, HashiCorp, Rackspace Technology, and McAfee.
