Dynamic IP Deals entity AK Meeting IP groupware patent likely invalid

On January 9, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims in an IPR filed by Unified against U.S. Patent 10,963,124, owned and asserted by AK Meeting IP LLC, an NPE and Dynamic IP Deals entity. The ‘124 patent relates to computer-supported cooperative work software, also known as groupware, and has been asserted in seven district court actions, including current actions against Cisco Systems, Fuze, and Lifesize.

Dynapass IP user authentication patent challenged

On January 6, 2023, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,993,658, owned and asserted by Dynapass IP Holdings LLC. The '658 patent is generally directed to two factor authentication systems using personal communication devices. The '658 patent has been asserted against several banks, including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Truist, and PNC.

IP Edge entity Invincible IP's virtual machine patent invalidated

On January 5, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision in Unified Patents, LLC v. Invincible IP LLC holding all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,678,774 unpatentable. Owned and asserted by Invincible IP LLC, an IP Edge entity, the '774 patent relates to allowing or denying migration of virtual machines based on the geographic location of the target host. It had been asserted against Citrix Systems, Nutanix, Alibaba Cloud US, DigitalOcean, NetApp, and Skytap in the District of Delaware.

WSOU Wi-Fi/802.11 patent invalidated

On January 5, 2023, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) issued a final written decision in Unified Patents, LLC v. WSOU Investments, LLC d/b/a Brazos Licensing and Development holding all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,333,770 unpatentable. Owned by WSOU Investments, LLC, the ‘770 patent is generally related to broadcasting data in a telecommunications system. It has been asserted against TP-Link Technology Co.

Hilco Global entity Bell Semiconductor integrated circuit patent challenged

On December 30, 2022, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 7,007,259, owned and asserted by Bell Semiconductor LLC, an NPE and entity of Hilco Global. The ‘259 patent generally relates to methods for patterning dummy metal to achieve planarity for chemical-mechanical polishing (CMP) of integrated circuits. The patent has been asserted in over 25 litigations against semiconductor companies like NXP, AMD, Micron, Qualcomm, Infineon, Western Digital, Lattice Semiconductor, and others.
