Sound View reexam won

On October 4, 2021, the Central Reexamination Unit of the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued a final office action rejecting all of the challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,426,715, owned by Sound View Innovations, LLC. The initial request was filed in an effort to protect Open Source technologies from invalid NPE assertions. The ’715 patent generally relates to shutting down a plurality of software components in an ordered sequence. Sound View had asserted this patent against WalmartVudu, and Delta Air Lines.

Joseph Yoon patent challenged

On October 1, 2021, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 9,376,076, owned and asserted by Joseph Y. Yoon IP LLC. The '076 patent is generally directed to airbag deployment technology currently being asserted against Toyota.

Dominion Harbor entity, Sovereign Peak Ventures, patent likely invalid

On October 4, 2021, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 9,042,457, owned by Sovereign Peak Ventures, a Dominion Harbor entity. The ’457 patent relates to video processing and has been asserted against LG and TCL.

MicroPairing patent challenged

On October 1, 2021, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 8,953,816, owned by MicroParing Technologies LLC, an NPE. The '816 patent is currently being asserted against Toyota and GM and is directed to connecting wireless audio devices to in-vehicle audio systems.

IP Edge entity, Paradise IP, patent challenged

On September 29, 2021, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 7,200,613 owned by Paradise IP, LLC, an NPE and IP Edge entity. The ’613 patent relates to asset management databases and has been asserted against 15 companies such as Spotify, Box, Iron Mountain, Citrix Systems, and others.
