Another Chinese Challenge Filed Against Dolby

On June 9, 2021, Unified Patents filed a Chinese invalidation request for CN102256122 owned by Dolby International AB. CN102256122 has been designated essential to the HEVC Advance pool and SISVEL’s AV1 pool. It is also related to patents that have been designated in those pools.

IP Edge entity, Xylon Licensing, patent challenged

On June 3, 2021, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination against U.S. Patent 8,719,165, owned by Xylon Licensing, LLC, an NPE and IP Edge entity. The ‘165 patent relates to completing secure transactions using a mobile device and a secure computer. It has been asserted in 13 district court litigations against companies such as Plains Capital, Texas State Bankshares, Mastercard, Shopkeep, Global Payments, and others.

Equitable IP entity Optic153's patent challenged

On May 28, 2021, Unified filed a petition for inter partes review (IPR) against U.S. Patent 6,115,174, owned by Optic153 LLC, an Equitable IP entity. The '174 patent is generally related to devices that vary optical signals and has been previously asserted against Comcast, Verizon, T-Mobile, Windstream Holdings, Dish Network, Charter Communications, Crown Castle International Corp., and AT&T.

Acacia entity, Monarch Networking Solutions, patent determined to be likely invalid

On June 1, 2021, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) instituted trial on all challenged claims of U.S. Patent 7,756,507, owned by Monarch Networking Solutions LLC, an NPE and an Acacia Research entity. The ‘507 patent is generally directed to device-based dual-factor authentication using one-time passwords. The ‘507 patent is currently being asserted against Cisco, Meraki, and Duo Security.

Another PacSec3 patent challenged

On May 25, 2021, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination against U.S. Patent 6,789,190, owned by PacSec3, an NPE. PacSec3 was formed in 2020 with NACAR IP LLC as its managing member. NACAR IP was also formed in early 2020 with Dynamic IP Deals, LLC (d/b/a DynaIP), a patent monetization company, identified as its managing member. The ‘190 patent has been asserted against F5 Networks, NetScout Systems, Palo Alto Networks, McAfee, Cisco, and Juniper Networks.
