Another Chinese patent challenged, this time against GEVC

On February 4, 2021, Unified Patents filed its second Chinese invalidity challenge against CN102939755. The CN’755 patent, originally assigned to Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, was transferred to GE Video Compression (GEVC). The CN‘755 patent is related to patents that are designated essential to the HEVC Advance patent pool as well as SISVEL’s AV1 and VP9 patent pools.

First China patent challenge against IdeaHub

On February 3, 2021, Unified Patents filed its first Chinese invalidation request for CN103081504 owned by IdeaHub, Inc. CN103081504 is directed to media content streamed in accordance with the MPEG-DASH standard and to video-on-demand (VOD) systems. It is related to U.S. Patent 8,645,562, which IdeaHub's licensee, Helios Streaming, LLC, has used to sue Showtime, Vudu, Crackle, and Starz.

2S Ventures affiliate, Optima Direct, settles with Unified

On February 1, 2021, the Board issued an order terminating IPR2020-00784 pursuant to a joint settlement request filed by Unified Patents and Optima Direct, LLC, an NPE and affiliate of 2S Ventures. U.S. Patent 8,646,060, generally directed to adaptive authentication methods using a mobile device, has been asserted in district court cases against HID Global Corporation, OneLogin, Ping Identity and Okta.

Inspire Licensing patent challenged

On January 29, 2021, Unified Patents filed an ex parte reexamination proceeding against U.S. Patent 10,005,427, owned and asserted by Inspire Licensing, an NPE and affiliate of IP Edge. The ’427 patent is related to sensors that generate alarms for a vehicle.
